Over the past couple of years we at Cambridge Hypnotherapy developed a sister site called Cambridge Sports Psychology. We were getting lots of enquiries from sportsmen and women who knew that they were not achieving their potential and that their results were not being equalled by their talent and ability.
We have worked with pretty much any sport that you could think of including rugby, football, boxing, mma, showjumping, golf, shooting, snooker, archery, motocross and many many more. We have used our set of skills with clients ranging from hobbyists all the way through to professional and international sportspeople.
When it comes to performing, you can have all the talent in the world…. if you don’t have the correct mindset then the chances are high that you will never achieve the success that you are deserving of. There are countless examples of professional sportspeople who are some of, if not the very best in their field. However there are times in their careers that they simply cannot bring all of their skills and talents into play, including the following examples:
Tiger woods – Arguably the greatest ever golfer yet when he was going through his personal troubles his performances were nowhere no matching his ability
Fernando Torres – Signed for £50million after being world class at Madrid and Liverpool, yet a drop in form and confidence, as well as the burden of the price tag has led to unbelievably below par performances.
Gareth Bale – Presently the worlds most expensive player but he started his Tottenham career with the jinxed reputation of being on the losing side in the first 24 games he played in leaving his performances lacking in confidence.
England cricket team – being one of the best in the world yet being whitewashed in Australia as the fear/anxiety became too much for them.
Now that Wimbledon has begun we have already seen an increase in tennis related enquiries as the sport is bought back into the public eye for another year.
No matter what sport you play, or the level that you play at, we at Cambridge Sports Psychology can help improve your performance, let go of any performance related anxiety, and most importantly of all get you to ENJOY your sport again.
