Can’t vs Won’t

What, or who, is stopping you?

How often do you look at something and say “I can’t do that”? More often than you’d care to admit would be my guess, am I right?

The old cliché is that there is no such word as can’t, to which I honestly believe has some truth to it. Obviously there are some things we can’t do… for instance I can’t run 100m in less than 10 secs (less than 30 secs may even be debatable these days!!!). No matter how much positive thinking I do, that will always remain something I can’t do.

But then there are those other things that we simply perceive we can’t do. For example:

“I can’t stop drinking once I’ve started…”

“I can’t leave food on the plate…”

“I can’t stop the anxiety from taking over me…”

“I can’t talk in front of groups of people without falling apart…”

Ultimately in every one of those examples above there is only one thing, or person for that matter, stopping them from being able to and that is the individuals themselves! To be even more to the point, each and every one of those statmements is in a excuse as to why someone isn’t living the way they want to. Who else is making them carry on drinking, or force feeding them food, or physically restraining them from talking to groups of people?

If we are in control of these limiting behaviours, why don’t we just change them and start behaving differently? I know it sounds too easy right? But, when you think about it, what is ACTUALLY stopping you? At Cambridge Hypnotherapy our aim is to remove those limiting beliefs easily and effortlessly. In typically no more than 3 sessions (many achieve their results in even less) you too could be regaining the unconscious controls and living your life exactly how you determine, not letting these little beliefs (excuses maybe?) get in the way.
