Becoming a Hypnotherapist in Cambridge

Quite often I am asked how I became a Hypnotherapist and how I started working here at Cambridge Hypnotherapy so I thought I’d share with you my journey here.

My background has always been a very sporty one, starting with playing football up to County standard at the age of 16. I then went on to 6th Form College where I studied Physical Education and Psychology, both of which had a module in Sports Psychology within them, and this is what set me on the way to realise just how powerful the mind can be. Leaving College I trained to work in the Fitness Industry and gained a Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training and went on to work in some of the best gyms in Cambridge. Here it became even clearer to me just how important the mind was when it came to achieving goals, for example, why was it that some people needed a personal trainer yet others could push themselves, or why was everyone so mad keen to get fit and January and the Summer but not in March or October. I worked my way up to Gym Manager and suddenly realised that there was no real job satisfaction for me anymore, and that I wanted to do something else, but the question was… what?

My Father had trained and worked as a hypnotherapist in Cambridge for many years prior to this, and had also introduced my younger brother Joseph into the field where he had also become a fully qualified Hypnotherapist, and they had both also travelled abroad to train to become trainers themselves, meaning they were now qualified to run courses and certify people to become therapists. As it happened, they even had a course coming up at about this time when I knew I wanted to do something different, so I thought why not see what it entails!

After successfully finishing the course, I was now a fully qualified Master Hypnotist, a Practitioner of Time Line Therapy, and a Practitioner of NLP and started working immediately with clients to help them reach their goals at Cambridge Hypnotherapy with my brother and father. Not content with just using the techniques that I now knew, I wanted to further and add to my skill set so also successfully completed the Master Practitioner course. This gave me everything I feel I needed to know to help clients achieve anything they asked for, such as letting go of depression, becoming more confident, losing weight, stopping smoking, or letting go of intense phobias.

6 years on I am still loving what I do, and every day I am glad I took the plunge from the safe yet mundane career with a regular pay cheque each month, into the diverse job I now do, and am very proud to be able to say that I am a full time Hypnotherapist in Cambridge.
